Eric Oszustowicz, author of The Elevated Railways of Manhattan, will be the presenter of our February meeting. We will begin with an extensive review of the New York Subway during the last year. This will include many unusual behind-the-scenes views. We will also take a brief look at the newest buses to hit the streets of New York City during 2018.
Then it is on to a very special part of the presentation. Since there would be no ERA without its members, both past and present, we will take a look back at scenes of our membership over the last 50 years. Photographs exist of membership meetings during the 1970s and early 1980s and even earlier photographs taken during various fantrips. We will see these photographs in addition to the many views taken by Eric over the years.
As a follow-up to last month’s program by Jack May, we then move on to eastern Ukraine and Poland. The January program emphasized trams while this program will emphasize commuter, intercity and freight railroading. For those who missed Jack’s program, Eric will review the tram systems in Kharkiv and various remote cities in eastern Ukraine plus Odessa. The tram views will be different from those shown in January. While in Poland, Warsaw and Lodz will be highlighted.
Finally, it is on to the ERA’s 2018 tour of southern Germany. We will look at the cities visited by the ERA with an emphasis on commuter, intercity and freight operations while Eric was away from the main group. And Eric will focus on Leipzig, which still operates many Tatra T-3s along its extensive network of tram routes, and where he made a major side trip on his own.
Please join us for a fascinating evening.
