The new tram in Athens, Greece

Jack May

January 18, 2007

Athens, birthplace of the Olympics, saw the Olympic tradition renewed when the 2004 Summer Olympics were hosted there. To make sure the large number of visitors could get to the venues efficiently, many new rail lines were constructed.

At our January meeting, world traveler and renowned photographer Jack May (ERA #2275) will present views of the new Athens light rail system, metro lines and commuter railways taken in the spring of 2006. On the same trip Jack also visited Turkey and will present slides of brand new light rail systems in Bursa, Eskhsehir and Istanbul, as well as from a side trip to Sofia, Bulgaria.

Jack will round out his program with views of the ERA’s 2006 Convention in Edmonton and Calgary, a trip across the Rockies to Vancouver on the Rocky Mountaineer, and the new Tacoma Streetcar in Washington.
