Branford Electric Railway’s Montreal & Southern Counties Railway No. 9. Bill Rosenberg (1987)

Jeff Hakner

May 13, 2011

The connection between the ERA and the Shore Line Trolley Museum in Branford, Conn. goes back to the museum’s founding in 1945 as the Branford Electric Railway Association (BERA). This month’s show, presented by Jeff Hakner of BERA, will focus on the New York-area cars in the museum’s collection of nearly 100 vintage vehicles. We’ll see these and sister cars in regular service, including Third Avenue in Manhattan, Bronx and Westchester, BRT/BQT, PSNJ, H&M, IND, BRT/BMT and IRT subway and elevated, Connecticut Company and Red Arrow. Look for some special shots of famous (infamous?) dual-citizens of ERA and BERA. You’ll also see behind-the-scenes views of trolley and rapid transit car operations and restoration, track, signal and overhead line maintenance, and learn more about the museum’s plans for the next century.
